Matador

In this body of work inspired by Ernest Hemmingway’s Death in the Afternoon, the artist embodies the guise of a bullfighter. Having trained in bullfighting, this series portrays the vulnerabilities experienced when attempting to fulfill the hero figure—the bull serving as a literal and metaphorical mirror to the artist’s desires, fears, and ambitions.
If you can manage to have the fear empty from your body, the fight becomes ultimate presence…. life and death together.”
